This training will cover the following:-
Explore cultural issues and biases that negatively impact this population
- Discuss the unique dynamics of parents with complex needs
- Explore how to assess and engage parents with cognitive and mental health issues
- Implementation of effective strategies (communication, avoiding traps, and using a strength-based approach)
- Understanding the person and not just the diagnosis
- Developing an individualized strength based plan that provides hope and optimism that change can occur
- Identifying effective interventions, supports or services
- Establishing collaborative relationships with system partners
- Supporting children that have a parent with cognitive/mental health needs
- Discussion of additional topics identified on the registration form
