This third symposium day addresses the Procedural Safeguards required in Early On. Procedural Safeguards will address the five areas pertaining to the protection of the rights of the child and family throughout the IFSP process. These areas relate specifically to: child and family records; notice to initiate or change the provision of a service; consent (families are fully informed of all information relevant to the activity for which consent is sought); participation of the family in the development of the IFSP; and resolution of disagreements. Discussion will also include the rights of the family in regard to information collected during the IFSP process relate to: confidentiality of child and family records; access of the family to records and amendment of records by the family.It is recommended that each participant bring a child's file so they can see how procedural safeguards impact when and how they gather data and the meaning of the parent signature.
