AUDX Hearing Training:

Beginning in 2003, Early On purchased both hearing and vision screening equipment, which was distributed to local service areas. The equipment is intended to help Early On service areas screen hearing and vision for children referred to Early On, in the event that Early On cannot obtain the federally required information about status of hearing and vision from the child's health care provider.

Training is available to professionals who work with Early On, who will regularly screen hearing and vision for children who have been referred to Early On for eligibility determination. The training is not designed for the screening of children 3 years and older, and may not be used to supplant the screenings mandated by State of Michigan Public Health Code and provided by the Local Health Department. Children age three and older are screened using a different protocol and different equipment, more appropriate for their age and development.

Training to use the Early On equipment is offered at no charge by the state Hearing and Vision Consultants from the Michigan Department of Community Health. The training is offered in a 2-day series, with separate registration for each day. Each training (one day for hearing, one for vision) is approximately six hours long, and includes background, didactic, and practicum training. A maximum of 10 participants may participate each day, pending the number of infants and toddlers available.

Each participant must bring their local screening equipment to the training. It must be in good working order (calibrated within the last 18 months), with batteries charged the night before the training, and necessary accessories on hand.

In order to participate in this training, a letter of support must be signed and received by the Michigan Department of Community Health prior to the day of the training (or during sign-in). EOT&TA will send Michigan Department of Community Health's Letter of Support to each participant once they have registered.

A Certificate will be granted to those who fully participate in and successfully complete the training.

No refreshments (break or lunch) are provided on site. Please bring your own. Participants will be given 45 minutes for lunch. They may either use one of the nearby fast food establishments or bring their own lunch.
