Clinton County RESA Presents:

THE COMPREHENSIVE, 2-DAY SEMINAR FOCUSES ON SENSORY PROCESSING DISORDER (SPD)
--
, a problem that effects at least 5% of children. Often SPD is misdiagnosed as ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Even more commonly, SPD is not diagnosed as a disorder at all...instead the child's issues are attributed to “bad behavior”, “poor motivation”, or “social-emotional problems.”

This workshop will review screening and assessment of SPD as well as intervention for the six subtypes of SPD. The presenta-tion will include videotaped examples of direct treatment as well as treatment in a classroom setting. A method for evaluating yearly progress and response to intervention will be explored.

The presentation will briefly review published peer-review studies by the Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation that address: :

  • Is SPD a valid syndrome, separate from existing disorders such as ADHD, Autism, and Anxiety Disorders?
  • Is the treatment of SPD effective?
  • What are the subtypes of SPD?
  • What is the prevalence of SPD?

This timely resource/conference addresses adequate yearly progress (AYP), response to intervention (RTI), and positive behavior support (PBS) in a common-sense format.

Who Should Attend:
This workshop is appropriate for all members of the child's educational team, particularly occupational and physical therapists, speech/language therapists, adaptive physical education teachers, special education teachers, psychologists, paraprofessionals, consultants, kindergarten or early primary school teachers and others. In addition, administrators may be interested in attending some sessions to learn about the validity of the diagnosis and current research in the field.
