Supporting Families with Premature Babies offers early intervention professionals an overview of the key issues that influence the healthy development of a premature child in the context of their family. This training will increase awareness of protective factors and potential difficulties typically encountered by premature babies and their families and present an approach to evaluating, observing, coaching and planning with families to support the child's successful adjustment to the world outside the womb.In this one day training participants will:
- Learn how premature babies' routines of feeding, sleeping, socializing, self soothing and moving around are similar and yet distinctly different from the full term baby.
- Learn how a premature birth affects the child and the family.
- Gain awareness of strategies and resources to support: the transition from the NICU and/or intermittent hospital stays; accurate interpretation the baby's signals; development of self- regulatory, organized behaviors in functional routines such as eating, holding, playing and sleeping; parental confidence and attachment with their baby.
- Learn about the Developmental Survey for Premature and Young Infants and how it can be used with families for assessment, ongoing education and planning together
SB CEU's and SW CEU will be offered pending approval
