In this webinar, sponsored by the Early On Center for Higher education, Professor Ellis will guide participants in evaluating current evidence-based best practices in the field  of assessing infants and toddlers. A range of formal and informal approaches will be  highlighted, explaining the purpose and practical application of each.

Recommendations will be offered for use in initial assessment and ongoing assessment, including assessing eligibility for Part C early childhood intervention.  Screening will be discussed. Considerations regarding the setting, family involvement and reporting results will be included.

This webinar is intended to be part one in a series on assessment. It will be an overview. Additional detailed installments are planned on specific assessment topics such as communicating about concerns with families,  the functional relationship between assessment and planning learning activities to optimize child and family outcomes and use of informed clinical opinion (ICO).

WHO should attend?
College and university faculty from many disciplines related to early childhood  intervention and their students; family members involved in Early On and professionals working in this field are welcome to participate. There will be opportunities to submit questions beforehand and to write in questions during the presentation. There is no option for live-time conversation.

ABOUT the Presenter:
Mary Ann Ellis currently teaches child development at Madonna University in Livonia MI, with an emphasis on family involvement, inclusion and diversity.  Mary Ann also works for Wayne RESA's Office of Early Intervention and is a Community Representative on the Wayne County Infant and Toddler Interagency Coordinating Council. She earned her BS in special education at Central Michigan University and her MA and Education specialist degrees at Eastern Michigan University.
