A - Moving from Ideas to Sustaining New Practices - Leading and Implementing Change in Part C Service Delivery Approaches (This session has reached capacity)
Lynda Cook Pletcher, M.Ed, Technical Assistance Specialist for the National ECTA Center, North Carolina
Participants will explore and examine the most commonly used approaches, foundational themes, and essential practices advocated for Part C service delivery. We will look at lessons learned from implementation science and its application to our work in Part C. Finally we will examine the role of state, local, and program wide leadership; what drives change to not only happen but to be sustained over time. The session will involve information giving, discussions, and active participation discovering how we move from a good idea presented at a conference or training to making these ideas happen at the program level.

B - I’m Not a Social Worker! Why am I Expected to be One? (This session has reached capacity)
Barbara Corbin, LMSW, Early On Coordinator, Kent Intermediate School District
Janice Fialka, LMSW, Special Projects Trainer, Office of Innovative Projects, Clinton County RESA
Supporting families is both rewarding and complicated, especially as more families experience challenges in daily living. Topics will include: practical approaches for handling strong emotions, strengthening active listening skills, understanding the impact of emotional labor on providers, use of reframing as a tool to handle challenging interactions, the role of coaching, and promotion of partnerships with diverse families. Self-care strategies will be emphasized. Learning will take place through a series of guided exercises using real life situations, reflection time, small group discussions, video clips, and mini-presentation on evidence based practices for working with families. This workshop will be interactive, engaging, lively and will require a desire to be reflective.

C - At Home with Music: Nurturing the Family Bond through Music, Movement and Literature
Gari Stein, Early Childhood Music and Movement Specialist, Music for Little Folks
Infants are born with an innate receptivity to music and movement. Research supports its positive effect on all developmental domains; nourishing the brain, enriching language and literacy, and contributing to social competence and emotional well being. Caregiving and family routines influence young children, impacting self-regulation, transitions and learning readiness. Attendees will come away with a perspective of bonding as a dialogue, a dance between parent and child, and thus, the implications for therapeutic intervention. Music provides a readily available tool and has the power to relieve stress, help out in frustrating situations, and increase efficiency and productivity.

D - When the Bough Breaks – Behavioral Outcomes and Interventions for Attachment Difficulties
Julie Ribaudo, MSW, Clinical Social Worker and Infant Mental Health Specialist, University of Michigan
Young children raised in abusive or neglectful homes, or in orphanages, have considerably different needs than children raised in stable families. When foster and adoptive families, educators or therapists are unfamiliar with the impact of neglect or abuse on child development, they run the risk of further traumatizing children by not adequately addressing their tremendous needs. This workshop will examine the impact of abuse and severe neglect and suggest a paradigm to increase a child’s ability to use primary caregivers as a safe base.
