Joan Lessen Firestone is Director of Early Childhood at Oakland Schools, a past president of Michigan AEYC, and a current Governing Board Member of NAEYC. Joan is committed to making early childhood research findings and their implications comprehensible forpractitioners and policy makers. Sheworks to improve the lives of young children by helping families and teachers understand what research tells us about how young children grow and learn and assisting them in using this information in their teaching and parenting. Joan is a national expert on children's brain development and the author of Building Children's Brains, available in print and on CD.
